Amazon Decart Deal: Reported $7 Billion Talks, a Month After Anthropic Walked

Amazon is in talks to acquire Decart for about $7 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported on October 11, per Calcalist. A deal could be signed soon, and the talks could still fall apart. Neither company has confirmed an agreement.

Third suitor. Nvidia pursued Decart in August, then Anthropic became the preferred bidder at a reported $6 billion to $7 billion and withdrew in September after due diligence, which we covered at the time. The reasons were never made public. Decart raised $300 million in May at about $4 billion, in a round led by Radical Ventures with Nvidia participating. A $7 billion price is a 75% markup on that round in five months.

Decart was founded in 2023 and has raised about $450 million. Its core software helps AI models run efficiently and move between chips from different manufacturers. It also makes Lucy, a real-time video editing model, and Oasis, which generates simulated environments. Calcalist notes its commercial business is far smaller than the proposed valuation.

The chip-portability software explains the buyer. AWS is already a Decart customer and gave it early access to the Trainium3 chip in 2025. Software that makes models run well on non-Nvidia silicon is worth more to a company selling non-Nvidia silicon than to anyone else. Amazon is also a major investor in Anthropic, which looked at the same asset and passed. One diligence team said no at about $6 billion. Another may say yes at $7 billion.

Decart would give Amazon a software layer that makes Trainium easier to adopt, at a higher price than the one another bidder walked away from a month ago. If you are a founder with an acquirer circling, a withdrawn bid did not hurt this price. If you build on Decart's optimization software across several clouds, ask now what happens to support for chips Amazon does not make.
