XPeng's Robot Unit Raised $900M at $6.3B, China's Largest Embodied-AI Round

XPeng's robotics business raised more than $900 million at a post-money valuation above $6.3 billion, which the company calls the largest single-round private financing in China's embodied AI industry, per its announcement. IDG Capital led, with Gaorong Ventures participating and Tencent and Alibaba joining as strategic investors. The money funds mass production of the Iron humanoid, targeted for the end of 2026, and physical-AI model development, with commercial deployment planned for 2027, per TechNode.

The structure is a carve-out, and that is the cap-table story. XPeng separated the robotics unit and raised against it directly rather than funding it from the parent balance sheet, which gives the business its own currency for hiring and its own path to a listing. It also isolates the risk. The market reaction underlined why that matters: XPeng shares fell as a weak delivery forecast overshadowed the robot valuation, per CNBC. Investors are willing to pay $6.3 billion for the robot unit and simultaneously mark down the car business that incubated it.

Tencent and Alibaba entering as strategic investors is the wider signal. Chinese humanoids now have a full domestic stack forming around them: Unitree listed in Shanghai this month with DeepSeek on its cap table, and XPeng is raising the largest round the sector has seen with two of the country's largest platform companies attached. All of it is happening while the United States has closed its market to Chinese humanoid imports on national-security grounds. Capital, model partners, and manufacturing are consolidating inside that wall.

The bar is mass production. Humanoid valuations to date have been priced off demonstrations, and XPeng is committing to end-of-2026 production with 2027 deployment. That is a falsifiable date, which makes this round easier to judge than most in the category.

A $6.3 billion carve-out funded by IDG, Tencent, and Alibaba puts real money behind Chinese humanoids at exactly the moment the US market closed to them. Watch the end-of-2026 production date, because it is the first hard deadline anyone in this sector has put on the record.
