Cognition Says It Passed $1B in Annualized Revenue, Doubling in Four Months

Cognition said its annualized revenue run rate passed $1 billion, roughly double the $492 million it reported in May, per Bloomberg. The company sells Devin, an AI coding agent, to enterprises. It announced a Series E of more than $2 billion at a $48 billion valuation on September 8.

$48 billion against a $1 billion run rate is 48 times, and that run rate doubled in four months. The two numbers pull against each other. A 48x multiple prices years of compounding, and a four-month doubling is the evidence offered for it. Run rate annualizes a recent period, so several large enterprise contracts landing together can move it more than steady demand would.

This closes a question we left open on September 16. Factory raised $200 million at $5 billion with no revenue disclosed, and we wrote then that the gap to Cognition's $48 billion mark was the whole argument. Cognition has now put a number on its side of that gap. Factory has not. Coding agents are the first AI application category with a public nine-figure revenue line, after Salesforce reported Agentforce at $1.5 billion in annualized revenue in August.

A $1 billion run rate that doubled in four months is the strongest revenue evidence the coding-agent category has produced, and 48 times is still the price being paid for it. Watch for gross margin disclosure as a listing nears, because inference cost decides whether this revenue converts to profit.
